BLOCK GAMBLING APPS ON IPHONE.

There are five real ways to block sportsbooks and gambling apps on an iPhone: DIY Screen Time, deleting the apps, Supervised Mode, a maintained timed wall (Untilt), and operator or state self-exclusion. Each has a failure mode the marketing skips. This is the honest version of all five, and which to use when.

1 · DIY Screen Time — free, built-in, and you own the keys

Settings → Screen Time can limit apps and block specific websites. Set it up if you haven't — it's free and it helps on autopilot days. Its failure mode is structural, not a bug: the person setting the limit and the person hitting "Ignore Limit" are the same person, five hours apart in mood. Add the web problem — every book runs a full site, so app limits alone leave Safari wide open unless you hand-add and maintain every domain — and DIY Screen Time ends up a speed bump, not a wall. Deeper teardown: why Screen Time alone isn't enough.

2 · Delete the apps — necessary, nowhere near sufficient

Deleting DraftKings feels decisive for about a day. The App Store remembers your purchases; reinstall is two minutes, and no download restriction blocks the mobile site. Deleting is a good ritual and a bad wall. If it worked, you wouldn't be reading this page.

3 · Supervised Mode — the strongest lock, at a price nobody mentions upfront

iPhone Supervised Mode (via Apple Configurator or an MDM service) can genuinely hard-block apps and domains — it's how company phones are locked down. The part often soft-pedaled by services selling this route: putting a personal iPhone into supervision requires erasing the phone and setting it up from scratch, and administering it well is a part-time IT job. If you have a trusted person to hold the supervision keys and you're willing to wipe your phone, it's a real option. Most people aren't, which is fine — that's what the next method is for.

4 · A timed, maintained wall: what Untilt does

Untilt takes the same Apple Screen Time technology from method 1 and removes the parts that fail. Hold once and a maintained set of 50 known wagering apps and 50 gambling websites — sportsbooks, DFS, prediction markets, odds tools — stops loading on this iPhone until the end time you chose. No list to build, no erase, no account, and the block is applied on-device.

The design choice that separates it from DIY Screen Time: walls are timed and active. There is no "Ignore Limit." The free wall simply runs its hour, and the wall comes down on its own at the end. Long walls exit only through deliberate friction: a 24-hour wait, then a 15-second hold. The honest limit, stated plainly: iOS gives a phone's owner final system-level control, and other devices are outside this wall. Untilt's claim is friction that outlasts an urge, not magic. Full methodology here.

5 · Self-exclusion — do it, and know its edges

Operator self-exclusion (in each book's responsible gaming settings) and state programs close accounts. They're worth doing — they add legal and practical weight a device tool can't. They also leave every door on your phone open: apps still launch, sites still load, and DFS pick'em and prediction markets usually sit outside state programs entirely. Treat exclusion as the account layer and a device wall as the phone layer: how self-exclusion works, state by state.

Which to use

Tonight, before the games: a wall now — one hold, free hour, decide the rest tomorrow. This month: Untilt Pro with an end date, plus self-exclusion at the books you actually use. This year: keep both, add the money layer (separate the bankroll from the checking account), and if betting has stopped feeling optional, add a person. 1-800-MY-RESET is at the bottom of this page for a reason.

Questions

What's the best free way to block betting apps on iPhone?

Untilt's one-hour walls are free and unlimited and restrict 50 covered betting apps and 50 sites together. DIY Screen Time is also free but you hold its passcode. BetBlocker is a free charity option that covers multiple platforms.

Why doesn't DIY Screen Time work for blocking sportsbooks?

Three reasons: you know your own passcode, 'Ignore Limit' is one tap away, and the web versions of every book still load unless you maintain a perfect manual website list. It's friction you own the keys to.

Can I block gambling sites on iPhone without erasing my phone?

Yes. Supervised Mode requires erasing and re-setting up the iPhone, which is why most people abandon that route. Untilt installs like a normal app, uses Apple's Screen Time technology with one permission, and requires no erase.

Does self-exclusion block the apps on my phone?

No. Self-exclusion closes accounts with licensed operators. The apps still open and the websites still load — and DFS pick'em and prediction markets are usually outside state programs entirely. Pair the account layer with a device layer.
